Dominik Jozef Piwowarski died on April 16, 2016, in Chelsea, Michigan, at the age of 86.
He went to join his dear family who moved on, ahead of him-his father, Henryk, his mother, Elzbieta, his two older sister-Maria and Agnieszka, his loving wife of over 50 years, Francoise, and his dear god-daughter,Theresa
Dominik was a survivor: a survivor of Nazi concentration camps, a survivor of multiple heart attacks and physical ailments, and a survivor of the premature loss of those nearest to him.
He is survived by three nephews, Robert(Ivonne) Leight, George(Cathy) Debski, Stani Lech-Bielinski, by his niece Rita(Kim) Michener, and numerous great-nephews and nieces.
Born in Katowice, Poland, he was displaced by war to Germany, then Belgium. He spent time in Rome to study for the priesthood, but was called back to Belgium to work in the coal mines and help support his family. He met and married his lifelong friend and companion, Francoise, then immigrated to the US in 1957. He was hired by GM as a model parts maker, and was a proud GM car owner all his life.
Dominik enjoyed life, enjoyed his friends, enjoyed hunting and gardening and storytelling. He had a talent for singing and used it extensively to the delight of everyone listening. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church Choir and the Filarets chorus. His proudest moment was when he sang during St. John Paul II's visit to Hamtramck, in 1987, with direction from his dearest friend and mentor, Mr. "B" Budweil, organist and choir director.
May his strong faith in God lead him to eternal rest.
