Erwin A.J. Stirnweis

Erwin A.J. Stirnweis, age 91, passed away August 25, 2023.

Erwin was the beloved husband of the late Marlene K. Stirnweis (nee: Schneider); loving father of the late Cameron, Jeffery, Shari, Sandra, and Virginia and dear brother of Gertrude F. Young (nee: Stirnweis).

Erwin was a lifelong lover of travel.  Starting at age 7, as a solo passenger on a steamer ship to Germany, he spent more than a year with his Grandparents in Munich.  He was barely able to make it back to the States, leaving on one of the last ships from Italy in 1940.  He served four years in the Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician with most of those years stationed in Malta.  With the Navy he saw Italy, Lebanon, Portugal and much of Europe and North Africa.  His love of aviation stayed with him his entire life and he volunteered more than 4,000 hours at the Yankee Air Museum.  The best years of travel came with Marlene.  Numerous cruises took them to Alaska, Russia, Australia, Hong Kong, and South America.  In all, they visited all seven continents.  However, as much as Erwin loved aviation and travel, nothing could exceed his love for Marlene and their children.

Visitation Tuesday, August 29, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Wysocki and Wilk Funeral Home, 29440 Ryan Road, Warren, Michigan. Graveside service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, at Oakview Cemetery, 1032 N. Main Street, Royal Oak, Michigan.
