Frank Robert Zozula

June 30, 1949 — March 21, 2025

Frank Robert Zozula passed away at the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township on March 21, 2025. He was 75 years old.

Frank was predeceased by his father, Paul Zozula, in 2003, and his mother, Alice Lillian Zozula (Pakki), in 2017. Frank is survived by his brother Paul J. Zozula who lives in Napa, California and his sister Patricia (Antonio) Garcia who lives in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Frank is the uncle of Lauren Carissa-Garcia (Devon) Glass and Andrew “Drew” Garcia (deceased). Frank also is the great-uncle of Owen Glass and Kara Glass.

Frank was born and raised on the west side of Detroit. In 1963 the family moved to Warren, Michigan. Frank attended Steward S. Mott Senior High School and graduated in 1968. He then attended Macomb Community College and received an Associate Degree in Arts in 1971. During this time period he also attended the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (Currently known as the College of Creative Studies).

Frank was an outstanding artist starting from a young age in Detroit. He carried on with his creativity throughout his lifetime. He was primarily a painter but also used pencils, colored pencils, chalk and charcoal on paper, canvas and cardboard. He also worked on sculpture pieces while in high school.

Frank suffered from schizophrenia during his entire adult life, which he endured with tremendous grace and acceptance. He was a kind and caring individual who interacted well in all of his living situations throughout the years. He had a spark for life and a sense of humor that colored all of his waking hours and helped to counteract all of his disabilities.

His affliction did not affect his passion for art. In 2013 Frank was selected first-place winner with his artwork, Portrait of Vincent Van Gogh. It was a painting selected to represent Northern Lakes Community Mental Health in the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health “Creative Minds, Changing Minds” art show.

Considering all of the hospitals, medicines and different living environments that Frank had been forced to make adjustments to and learn to accept, he still managed to find purpose in his life through his humor, his artistic abilities and his kindness. Each and every one of us should feel as lucky to achieve these things in our own lives.
