John Lewis Skorna

John L. Skorna, age 88, passed away October 13, 2024.

John Skorna, 88, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. His life was one of service, love, and devotion to his family, friends, and country. Following graduation from St. Cecilia's High School in Detroit, he proudly served in the Marine Corps. He then went on to have a long career at General Motors. After retiring, John found his passion in volunteer work with the American Red Cross. He aided in many disaster relief efforts over the years, including the aftermaths of 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. John's faith was an integral part of his life and inspired him to engage in many volunteer activities through his parish, including hosting a rotating shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness in the community.

John was a loving and devoted husband to Dolores, his wife of 65 years. Together, they explored the country in their RV, often bringing their grandchildren along on their adventures. He cherished his boat and loved taking his family on fishing and tubing trips. John was a lifelong fan of Michigan Football and all Detroit sports teams, while also being a steadfast supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s various athletic activities throughout the years. John was a big kid at heart, always ready to bring laughter to those around him with his quick wit and silly jokes.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; children Jim (Lynn) Skorna, Jean (Edward) Vidosh, Tom Skorna, and Jennifer (Christopher) Lussier; grandchildren Stephanie (Ryan), Steven (Jamie), Jacqueline, George (Isabelle), Marie (Lu'Andre), Rose, Benjamin, Violet, Frank, Carolina, John, Zachary, Tanner, Soleil, Phoebe, Matthew, Genevieve, Cecilia, Timothy, Brandon, and Stella; and great-grandchildren Luke, Jude, Finn, Palmer, Charlotte, Waylon, and Holston. He was also survived by his sister-in-law, Christine (the late Bill) West and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his beloved son, Joseph.

John's legacy is one of unwavering love and joy. Though we will miss him tremendously, we hold onto the countless memories and look forward to the day we will see him again.
